Who we are – FAQs

1. What is your mission?

For nearly 20 years, Tripura Foundation has been committed to abolishing extreme poverty and human suffering. Our programs seek to eradicate hunger, and empower children and families to end the cycle of extreme poverty once and for all.

2. How can I learn more about Tripura Foundation?

Our website is the most comprehensive source of information about Tripura Foundation. Here you can find a wealth of information about our work, the people we serve, our programs, news and updates from the field on our blog.

3. When and where did Tripura Foundation start?

Tripura Foundation was founded in 1989 and is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, public benefit corporation. The founder of the organization, Dr. Baskaran Pillai, felt the need to create a service organization that would alleviate the suffering of people living in abject poverty; those who experience the most severe forms of limitation. Tripura Foundation programs started in India and have since spread to the United States, Mexico and Canada. Our goal is to continue expanding to places where there are people in need.

4. Why should I support projects in India and other developing countries?

We believe that helping people who are suffering transcends race or nationality. India and other developing countries are home to large groups of people suffering in extreme poverty. We are passionate about helping anyone in need, especially those living in the worst of conditions. Due to the favorable conversion rate of the US dollar, donations can be stretched to help a greater number of people in more profound ways in these developing nations.

5. How do I stay updated on the work Tripura Foundation is doing?

If you’d like to receive notifications about updates from the field, event information, recent news and inspirational stories, please sign up for our periodic email newsletter. We also invite you to join the Tripura Family by following our Facebook page, YouTube channel and checking in on the Tripura Foundation website.

6. Can I visit Tripura Foundation’s projects?

Yes! One of the best ways to see the impact that Tripura Foundation is having on the lives of children in the developing world is to visit our projects. Upon request, we will host site visits for our donors, volunteers and other people who are interested in our work. Our site visits are usually a few hours in length and can include a visit to a Hope Learning Center, a school where Phonemic Intelligence is being used and/or a chance to meet one or more of our children.  If you would like to schedule a site visit, please send a request through our contact page at least 2 weeks in advance of your visit date. We will follow-up on your request as soon as possible.
