Lepers Gain New Leases On Life

Lepers Gain New Leases On Life

Chandra and her husband do not have children to look after them. Other relatives deserted them because they suffer from Leprosy. Due to long-term illness, neither can return to work as laborers. All they can do is beg for alms here and there to survive.

They live in a single room built by the government for people with Leprosy. They suffer the effects of the numbing cold and scorching heat most nights and days because they do not have warm blankets or bedspreads to cover them up. Chandra is anemic. She does not have access to clean water or sanitary hygienic materials within walking distance.  This poor elderly couple in rural India cannot afford the most basic necessities to maintain a “dignified life”.

It is our HoPE Center children who identified this couple and their plight. Supported by their teachers, the children requested that Chandra and 76 other destitute elders receive monthly groceries (including rice, Toor dal, sunflower oil, chili powder, pepper, cumin seeds, mustard, pickle bottle, bath soap, washing soap, shampoo, tooth powder, coconut oil, cough syrup, and pain relieving gel) to help keep them fed, groomed, and in less pain. They also receive occasional items of clothing. More importantly, they know that they are cared about and not completely forsaken by humanity.

For only $30 a month, you can feed, clothe, comfort and restore dignity to a poor elderly person like Chandra.  You are empowered to save a precious life!
