On March 8th each year, people worldwide celebrate a holiday called International Women’s Day, which began in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.

This means International Women’s Day began during the industrial revolution – a time of great chaos, population growth, and the forefront of the women’s rights movement. In 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter work hours, better pay and the right to vote.

In honor of International Women’s Day 2015, the HoPE Learning Center students of Velur held a big celebration.

Students of our Velur HoPE Learning Center invited their parents, the Panchayat Ward Member and the Chief Guest to attend this event.  During the celebration, students and parents participated in planned sporting events.  Some students spoke about the importance of this great holiday, while other students sang and presented their kavithaikal (poems).  The Chief Guest gave prizes to the winners of each category, and everyone involved celebrated in happiness and joy!

DID YOU KNOW?  Bringing HoPE to a child is easy!  Will you open your heart by contributing just $10 each month to sponsor one child, $30 each month to sponsor 3 children, or even $300 per month to sponsor an entire HoPE Learning Center?  In return for your contribution, you’ll receive quarterly updates about the progress of these precious HoPE Center children and, of course, the inner peace that comes from serving others.  Donate here.
