At Tripura Foundation, we often witness profound connections between our HoPE children and the sponsors who uplift their lives—but every now and then, a story comes along that touches our hearts in the most extraordinary way.
Meet Sharish, a bright seventh-grade student at our HoPE Learning Center in Pothavur, Tamil Nadu. Though his parents are not literate, their love and hope led them to enroll Sharish in the HoPE Station three years ago. Since then, his life has been transformed.
In a heartfelt letter to his sponsor, David Halley, Sharish expressed gratitude for the support that has helped him grow in confidence, excel in school, and dream big about a future in science and math. With sincerity and wisdom beyond his years, he wrote:
“Learning at HLC has not only improved my academic skills but also taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance. I hope to continue my education in science and mathematics. With your help, I have been able to access resources and opportunities that were once beyond my reach.” – Sharish
David’s response was filled with warmth, humor, and heartfelt encouragement—sharing common interests, cultural connection, and a strong message for Sharish’s continued journey:
“If I had one word of advice to you and your class, it is that you should never give up the opportunity to keep on learning, especially subjects you really enjoy.”

He also shared his delight in Sharish’s mention of “mochakkottai” and even joked about inviting him to one day visit England and bring some to share with the King! His message reminded us that education, curiosity, and kindness transcend all borders.
“You do all the same activities that I do where I live—reading, PI, yoga and drawing… I was actually talking to William, the Prince of Wales, about you and your diet—and he didn’t know what mochakkottai tasted like either! Maybe one day you can visit England and bring some for all of us—including the King!” – David Halley
These letters are more than words—they are the threads that stitch our global community of HoPE together. They show what’s possible when we support a child not just with education and resources, but with love, encouragement, and belief in their potential.
At HoPE Learning Centers, children like Sharish receive education, life skills, and the encouragement they need to dream beyond their circumstances. And for sponsors like David, the impact goes both ways—bringing joy, purpose, and lasting bonds.
