General Questions

What is our mission?
For nearly 20 years, Tripura Foundation has been committed to abolishing extreme poverty. Our programs seek to eradicate hunger, educate children, and empower women & girls, ending the cycle of extreme poverty once and for all.
What does Tripura Foundation do?
Tripura Foundation seeks to deliver HoPE to people living in poverty, hunger, violence, disease, inequality and exploitation.   To achieve Tripura’s vision, we focus on the area where we believe we can have the greatest impact: phonemic intelligence and transformative education. We work in collaboration with school communities on a global level to develop academic and social skills. We partner with local governments across India to deliver holistic community building programs. We partner with individual donors to bring phonemic intelligence programs to targeted special needs groups. Tripura Foundation works with the highest values of full integrity, accountability, commitment to success, ethics, community building, efficiency and inspiration.   Tripura Foundation is a 501(c)3 public benefit corporation and all donations are deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Tripura Foundation is also registered with the Government of India Income Tax Department u/s 80G.
Where can I learn more about Tripura Foundation?
Our website is the most comprehensive source of information about Tripura Foundation. It contains descriptions of our programs, three years of audited financial statements and our most recent annual report.
Why should I support this organization when there are people in need in my own country?
In the communities where we work, a relatively small investment can have major impact in the lives of hundreds (or thousands) of children. We believe that every child deserves to develop their potential, no matter the situation they were born into, but the truth is that in many parts of the world —especially in rural communities or in big city slums —many children are still denied that basic human right.
How do I stay updated on the work Tripura Foundation is doing?
A lot happens at Tripura Foundation, so to make sure you are getting all the latest results numbers, expansion updates and event information, be sure to sign up for our quarterly email newsletter. We also post regularly to the Facebook page, Blog and YouTube Channel, so no matter where you live, you can always stay in touch.
How can I get my company involved?
There are many ways your company can support our work. Here are some of our favourites:
  • Get your employer to match your donation.
  • If your company has a corporate foundation, make an introduction.
  • Hold a company fundraiser for our projects. By combining efforts, you and your colleagues can have a major impact on the communities where we work.

Programs and Locations

How do we form a partnership with your organization?
Partner organizations are an important strategic aspect of Tripura’s business model.  Our intention is to work in collaboration with corporations in order to safeguard the continuity of existing work and ensure long-term sustainability.  At this time, our India team are focused primarily on strengthening relationships with partners who are looking to sponsor the in-kind donations of HoPE on Wheels.
Where can I learn more about how you run your programs?
You can find extensive information about our programs on our website, including videos and relevant case studies from our blog. Information about our Research, Monitoring and Evaluation is also available.
How do you address the educational needs of children in India?
Tripura Foundation in India is dedicated to promoting and enabling transformational education through school and HoPE programs focused on increasing academic and social intelligence, decreasing hunger, violence, disease, inequality and exploitation. We achieve this goal by establishing partnerships with local school communities, training teachers on phonemic intelligence and transformational education, supporting girls and boys to complete secondary school with the holistic life skills necessary to succeed in school and future life. The  after school HoPE Learning Centers in India bring following results:
  • Improved Academic performance: better grades and test scores,
  • Greater Emotional Intelligence: positive attitude, increased resilience,
  • Reduced Behavior Issues: fewer conflicts, better cooperation,
  • Greater Sense of Confidence: more effective communication, ability to be assertive without being aggressive.
Does the work you are doing in these countries mean you support their governments?
We act as a non-governmental 501(3)c charitable organization. Because we work in public (government) schools, we partner with government ministries of education to implement our transformational educational programs but are not involved in their politics.
Where does Tripura currently work?
In 2000 Tripura launched in India, our first country of operation. As the organization grew, we began to identify other countries facing similar educational challenges that our programs were suited to address, which led to expansion into 5 more countries US, Haiti, Mexico, Trinidad, UK.
What are your plans for expansion?
Tripura is growing every day—serving new communities and new regions in our 5 countries of operation. Recognizing that the need for our work exists in many other countries across the developing world, we are also firmly committed to increasing the international footprint of our programs.
How do you select the villages that you partner with?
One of Tripura’s fundamental philosophies is community participation, so our local teams take great care in identifying each HoPE centre or PI School Project. While selection criteria may vary by country, there are three important requirements:
  1. Needs assessment: Before beginning work, our team conducts a thorough assessment of each school community to ensure that there is a genuine need for HoPE or PI support and that our HoPE and PI programs can have a significant positive impact.
  2. Government approval: Because we work in government (public) schools, the Ministry of Education at the local or national level must approve PI project locations before we can begin work.
