Volunteer Diaries

Esmeralda
Esmeralda Campos from Mexicali, Mexico is an outstanding volunteer who has taught Mind-Sound Technology (MST) to the children of Mexicali since 2005. She is an accountant for an international manufacturing firm.
"When I began teaching the Mind-Sounds, I noticed the children were gaining knowledge of a new way of being. New possibilities opened for them and a new way of seeing things dawned. Shortly afterwards, a calmness was born allowing the children to be more aware of themselves. They then recognized that there was a special time being created for them to do these techniques that would made them do well and feel good. There is cooperation and unity among the students. They rarely miss class."
Esmeralda feels that not only the children, but she has benefited from teaching the Mind Sounds, "By doing the sounds with the children, I have increased my own level of attention and am able to perceive things at a finer level. I've become more disciplined and make time to do things that help my own growth. I am more in tune with myself and others in my daily life, and am feeling more peaceful. I am more connected with life and see the sacredness in myself and in all things. I can see that what I receive is a reflection of what I generate within and I am able to apply myself more."

Brenda
Volunteers and friends of Tripura go out regularly to feed the neighborhood street dogs, keep a look out for those in need of medical attention, and arrange ‘capture' for those that need to go through the ABC or Animal Birth Control program. One very special friend of TF is Brenda.
Brenda is very humble about what service she gives to the neighborhood street dogs so this is being written on her behalf. She has been feeding, watering, giving medical attention, and most of all love to the street dogs of this to Chennai neighborhood.
She carries buckets of water to all the dogs during the heat of the day. Brenda isn't in great health herself, suffering from a heart condition, however she says the best medicine for this is the warm feeling she gets in her heart each feeding time.

Ramya
I had the pleasure recently of volunteering at the Chennai Girlstown Program. The girls were INCREDIBLY JOYFUL AND FRIENDLY when I arrived, each one shaking my hand and introducing themselves to me in English.
I am a Flamenco dancer so I decided it might be fun to do a Flamenco class with them. Well, the girls took to Flamenco dancing the way race horses take to running! These girls had so much rhythm and grace and excellent attention in class. Even without proper music or shoes the girls learned some Flamenco songs and a short dance in no time. They were even able to do a short Flemenco recital (with simple Flamenco costumes and everything!) at their Christmas party.
Ramya Teaching the Girls Flamenco Dancing
The highlight for me, though, was seeing the girls do their Indian dances to both Indian Classical and Indian pop music. The girls were FANTASTIC and I wanted to steal all of their cool steps! They were excellent choreographers as well. I am hoping to come back to Chennai with proper Flamenco music next visit and form the Arut Perum Jyothi Dance Company!
Love & Grace Light,
