Sunday Feeding at a Neighboring Slum
Every Sunday, we feed 50 children and a few elderly women who are widows.

Conditions of the Slums
Adjacent to the building which headquarters the administrative offices is a small slum. The conditions of this slum are similar to many other slums of India- cramped, tiny houses lining a street filled with garbage, one common pump for cooking water and bathing the children and one common ditch in the rear of the slum for a latrine. The men mostly work as day laborers and the women work as housemaids. The lucky children go to school, and the other children run wild- with makeshift clothing and dirty faces.

We believe that compassion starts in your own backyard. From Monday to Saturday, the children receive a complimentary lunch from the government of Tamil Nadu at their school. This supplements their meager meals of plain rice mixed with water at home.

Our Program
On Sundays, the children suffered for the lack of the school lunch. So we began cooking a large vat of rice mixed with vegetables and lentils for protein, and carried the container to the slum. The children run out of their houses with plates and bowls to receive the food. They are so eager and excited to eat food that is tasty and nutritious that they can hardly maintain a line while waiting their turn for food.

Every Sunday, we fed 50 children and a few elderly women who are widows. It gives a special sense of contentment to lead a helping hand to your neighbors!
