Scholarship Program for Poor Students

Burden of Purchasing School Supplies
Even though the government schools in India are free of cost, students are still responsible to purchase their supplies like notebooks and pens. For a family suffering from poverty and trying to educate multiple children, even this extra cost can be a burden.

Rotary Club's Scholarship Program
The Rotary Club of Madras has been maintaining a scholarship program that gives Rs.1200 or $26 USD to deserving poor students to help them with their educational costs. The selection of the children is made in coordination with the headmasters of the government schools of Chennai. All the students are from families that earn around Rs.1500 or $33 USD per month.

Our Donations
Every month, Tripura Foundation is donating Rs.5000 or $110 USD towards this program. This supports the education of 4 children per month or 48 children per year. We expect to double this support during the next school year 2001-2002 and help 96 children for the year.
