June Brings Warmth & Success For The Tripura Foundation and 50 Girls

"Short-changing girls is not only a matter of gender discrimination; it is bad economics and bad social policy. Experience has shown, over and over again, that investments in girls' education translate directly and quickly into better nutrition for the whole family, better health care, declining fertility, poverty reduction and better overall economic performance."
- From 'We the Peoples', the Millennium Report of the United Nations Secretary-General

"There can be no significant or sustainable transformations in societies - and no significant or lasting reduction in global poverty - until girls receive the quality basic education they need and that is their fundamental right."
- Carol Bellamy, UNICEF Executive Director

Girls Town Begins with a Smile

Founder of Tripura, Dr. Baskaran Pillai, has wanted to have an opportunity for sometime to help under privileged girls in India achieve a higher education and overcome the social, physical and psychological barriers of poverty. Miraculously everything fell into place in the month of June and the Tripura Foundation with your help was able to launch its first GirlsTown Program. Forty-one sponsors came to Chennai, India to meet their sponsored child in person; they even performed a talent show for the children, including a rendition of Old Mc Donald with some hilarious animal noises. Afterward the children where taken to their new house, where they apparently let loose with abandonment. Many had never seen such a large dwelling much less believe that they would ever live in one.
